The Bridgestone brand has a global reputation as the tyre industry market leader, renowned for producing quality products and being at the forefront of technology, innovation and continuous improvement.
We first created the Bridgestone Gecko back in 2003. This was in response to a request for a character design that would complement the established brand. Bridgestone was looking to engage their consumer with a fun personality that was a bit of a larrikin.
After numerous sketches, the Gecko was born.
We then went on to create a series of 3D illustrations for Bridgestone’s print campaigns. Over the years, this has expanded into fully animated TVC’s, point of sale, magazines and merchandise. The Gecko has been immortalised in toys, window decals and bumper stickers to name a few.
Bridgestone is represented by Showpony Advertising and the Kiln in Adelaide. We have long standing relationships with these agencies as a result of our ability to communicate and deliver.
In 2010 there was some discussion about retiring the Gecko. All good things come to an end and a new campaign was launched. There was such a backlash from the general public, that Bridgestone had to bring the Gecko back by popular demand.
The Bridgestone Gecko is so well loved that we are not allowed to put him in (perceived) danger during any animated sequences. It upsets the public. Now that’s brand engagement for you!
